Religion and Politics used to be two ends of a river but in modern times they have become intertwined and inseparable. Illegitimate relationship between Religion and Politics gave birth to a concept called Dharmantaran which at the face value may seem like just another religious work however deep down it is less religious and more political in nature. The play questions false beliefs of society, how few sections have poisoned the essence of religion for their own vested interest and present the brutality due to casteism in a hard-hitting manner. It depicts the challenges of a common man like Tribhuvan and how his life unfolds in the entourage of religious politics.

Andha yug

Andha Yug is a 1953 verse play written in Hindi, by renowned novelist, poet, and playwright Dharamvir Bharati (1926-1997). Set in the last day of the Great Mahabharat war, the five-act tragedy was written in the years following the 1947 partition of India atrocities, as allegory to its destruction of human lives and ethical values. It is a metaphoric meditation on the politics of violence and aggressive selfhood and that war dehumanized individuals and society. Thus both the victor and the vanquished lose eventually Kritavarma is a Vrishni Yadava warrior in Hinduism. He appears as a minor character in the Mahabharata, fighting in the Kurukshetra war for the Kauravas. Kritvarma was the commander of the Narayani sena consisting of gopas.

Post colonial India left its citizens with numerous socio-economic and political challenges to deal with. From villages to towns, people were suffering from immense poverty and hardships, the economy was hit hard and people were dying of starvation. The traditional family structure was at the verge of collapse and the system of joint family was getting replaced by small and nuclear families with the changed gender roles. In India, pre and post independence, the concept of woman, was drawn from the scriptures and mythologies and modelled on women like Savitri and Sita, thus, working outside their traditional domains had no place in the typical patriarchal society hitherto but post independence women, encouraged by Indian constitution, education and reformists, strengthened their voice for equal rights and unbiased working opportunities. In such a volatile situation the newly formed government was still trying to establish itself and it did not have any concrete solution to the majority of the problems being faced. This research paper endeavors to explicate the emerging social issues in?Halfway House?the English translation of an iconoclastic work of Hindi drama?Adhe Adhure?by Mohan Rakesh. This play meticulously characterises the challenges and the problems of a middle class family struggling to maintain a balance between the traditional and modern values in post colonial India. Through this study an attempt has been made to delve deep into the issues and challenges faced by people in postcolonial India as a result of significant structural changes that happened in the society and which undermined the established social institutions and subverted the traditional social norms. The paper also highlights the theme of economic instability and the issues associated with it along with an analysis of the theme of absurdity of over ambitiousness and modernity.

Ashadh Ka Ek Din is a Hindi Play by Mohan Rakesh that debuted in 1958 and is considered the first Modern Hindi play. The play received a?Sangeet Natak Akademi Award?for best play in 1959 and has been staged by several prominent directors to critical acclaim. A feature flim ?based on the play was directed by?Mani Kaul and released in 1971, and went on to win?Flimfare Critics award for the best movie?for the year. Before it Hindi plays to date were either idealistic or didactic, devoid of connection with contemporary reality; above all their language remained the language of literature, which wasn't suitable for the stage, but this play changed it all. Mohan Rakesh went on to write two more plays, and left one unfinished at the time of his death in 1972, but he had shifted the landscape of Hindi theatre
